University of Chester – Learning Disability

A key role of the learning disability nurse is to help and support people with learning disabilities, ensuring that the opportunities for maximum physical and mental health are made available and that they participate fully as equal members of society.

Learning disability nurses support individuals and families across the age continuum, from children to older people, in both community and residential settings promoting person-centred care.

During the programme, you will have the opportunity to learn about the specific needs of people with learning disabilities in relation to their physical, psychological and social health, apply theory to practice in relation to multidisciplinary care, develop and integrate research skills in relation to learning disability nursing, and examine the role and functions of the community learning disability nurse within a multi-agency context.

The modules you undertake will address this.
